Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by Incharge BOP Dachi Police said that a police team under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali at a checkpoint established at Dachi Uri intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK05J-8004 driven by one suspect who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search, 822 grams of Cannabis, 707 grams of Cannabis Powder, 654 grams of Cannabis Leaves and 262 grams of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession.
Stating that the accused was later identified as Noor Mohd Mughal S/o Khan Mohd Mughal R/o Kundi Barjala Kamalkote and also subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that police has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Uri and initiated further investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in anti-social activities and urged such people to mend their ways as early as possible.
