AKAM: One day Seminar on Indian National Movement held at GDC Pulwama

Pulwama : The Department of History, Political Science, in collaboration with Debates and Seminars Committee Govt. Degree College (GDC) Pulwama on Tuesday organized a one-day seminar on “Indian National Movement” on theme ‘Unity’ under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM).
Syed Abdul Bari Andrabi, Chairperson District Development Council District (DDC) Pulwama was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme was also attended by students of different semesters and faculty members of the college.
The DDC Chairperson in his speech spoke about the ideological basis of the Indian National Movement. The chief guest brought to fore the trajectory of Indian National movement from different theoretical perspectives as well as the practical ground realities existent in India. He also urged the students to be part of the political process as important feedback for healthy politics.
Earlier, Prof. Haris Izhar Tantray, Principal Govt, Degree College Pulwama in his welcome address briefed the audience about the importance of the seminar and appreciated the efforts of the organizers.
Dr. Aushaq Hussain Dar, Head, Department of History in his keynote address spoke about the nature of Indian National Movement and highlighted the contribution of prominent leaders in nation building. He also spoke about political rights, civil liberties, representative democracy, modern economic development, and accommodative politics as important features of the Indian National Movement.
A documentary highlighting the important events of Indian Freedom Struggle was also screened during the seminar.
Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Convener AKAM and Head Department of Political Science presented vote of thanks. He stressed that this Mahotsav is a festival of awakening of the nation; fulfilling the dream of good governance; and of global peace and development.
Prof. Jon Mohammad, Convener Debates and Seminar Committee conducted the proceedings of the Seminar.
Meanwhile, in line with the AKAM celebrations since last year, the college has organized more than 100 programmes on the themes like Unity of the country, Empowerment of Women and Children, Contribution of Tribal Communities towards Nation Building, Sustainable development under the concept of Life, Health and Wellness, Languages, Unity of the Country, Swachta etc.
