Jammu: Animal Husbandry Department Jammu on Tuesday organised a workshop cum training programme for successful implementation of Bharat Pashudhan-National Digital Livestock Mission here in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Animal Husbandry.
The designated Nodal Officers from across the districts of Jammu division were apprised about the new digital framework and trained for its effective implementation in their respective districts.
Welcome address and overview of the topic was presented by CEO, Livestock Development Board, Jammu, Dr Raman Gupta.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Animal Husbandry Department Jammu, Dr. Shubhra Sharma said that Jammu and Kashmir is among nine states and union territories of the country selected for implementation of this programme. She further said that the livestock sector is the backbone of the rural economy as over 60% rural households have livestock as part of their livelihood and economic activity and the sector has been showing consistent growth as well as export potential. She further stated that with the implementation of this programme, a farmer-centric ecosystem with modern information and applications which include the establishment of a digital livestock database shall be created which will improve farmers’ access to services and timely information updates.
Subject matter experts from National Dairy Development Board, Anand Gujarat, explained in detail about various technicalities involved in operating the BP-NDLM software to the officers present and addressed their queries. They further informed that this digital platform is jointly developed by Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Govt. of India and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and shall replace existing INAPH. Further it shall also enable proper disease monitoring and surveillance and address issues like livestock products traceability thus boosting dairy and other livestock exports due to the universal coverage of livestock with unique 12 digit barcoded ID and its integration with owner details.
Workshop among others was attended by Principal Para-Vet Training Institute, District Nodal Officers and officers from the technical section of the Directorate.
