Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has seized illicit timber in Baramulla and also arrested three accused persons involved in the commission of crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Uri led by SHO Police Station Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali, arrested two timber smugglers identified as Farooq Ahmad Jungle S/o Noor Wali & Mashkoor Ahmad Jungle S/o Noor Din, both residents of Nambla C Uri, involved in cutting down illicit forest timber and on their disclosure, 57 cft illicit wooden planks of forest timber was recovered in Nambla C Uri.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action, a police party of Police Post Mirgund under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz, arrested a drug smuggler identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar S/o Ali Mohammad R/o Khanpeth, involved in cutting down illicit forest timber and on his disclosure, 48 cft illicit wooden planks of forest timber was recovered in Khanpeth Singhpora, adding therein that all the accused persons were shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and further investigations was also initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said that the drive against timber smugglers shall continue to ensure protection of green gold.
