3 Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Pulwama ATM theft case: J&K Police

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three Bangladeshi nationals who were involved in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) theft case in Jammu Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The accused have been identified as Suman Mal a resident of Rajapur Police station Raainda Bangladesh, Farooq Ahmad Ali of Razwair Police station Rainda Bangladesh and Mohd Ibrahim a resident of Bangla Bazar Police station Sharun khola Bangladesh, police said.

They said on April 8, 2023 unknown burglars stole an ATM machine installed near Government Degree College Pulwama. In this regard a case was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Pulwama.

Taking into account the gravity of crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Additional Superintendent Police Pulwama, was constituted, who during the course of investigation analysed digital data evidences besides meticulous investigation of circumstantial evidences- persistent and focused examination of suspects resulted in identifying a group of international thieves from Bangladesh who had committed such type of crime in the past also, police said.
Police have also used the service of a private detective to unearth the gang. Due to collective effort by the team and particularly distinguished efforts the sensational burglary racket got identified & apprehended.

The suspects during strenuous questioning, confessed the commission of crime, subsequent to their disclosure, the stolen ATM machine was recovered from an orchard dumped in a pit at Dogam Kakapora.

The said gang of burglars has revealed that they had committed such ATM theft at other places too over the past years. This gang of thieves from Bangladesh started operating in South Kashmir from the beginning of this year and also disclosed ATM theft in Pampore.

The investigation is still continuing to arrest other accomplices, police add.
