Int’l Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed at Kupwara

Rallies, marathons, pledges, awareness Progs held across district to mark the event

Kupwara : On the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, School Education department, Social Welfare and Youth Services & Sports department under the aegis of District Administration Kupwara on Monday organized different activities including rallies, marathons, pledges, awareness programmes across Kupwara district to generate mass awareness regarding the ill effects of drugs.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, Cultural Education Wing CEO Office Kupwara in collaboration with Youth Services & Sports department organized a bicycle race from DC office complex Kupwara to GDC Kupwara.
The race was flagged-off by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara, Abdul Hamid Fani in presence of Principal BHSS Kupwara and officials of YS&S department.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO highlighted the significance of the day and emphasized the need for awareness among the youth to combat the growing menace of drug and substance abuse.
After the culmination of the race, Mohammad Abass Chopan, Malik Adnan and Malik Mursaleen of BHSS Kupwara secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Later the students were felicitated with awards within the premises of BHSS Kupwara.
At Handwara, the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with BHSS Handwara commemorated the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Boys Higher Secondary School Handwara.
On the occasion, several officers including Additional Deputy Commissioner, Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir; SHO Handwara, CDPO Rajwar and Principals of the BHSS/GHSS highlighted the importance of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The speakers highlighted that Drug abuse remains a significant public health concern, affecting millions of people from all walks of life. It not only poses serious health risks but also leads to social, economic, and legal consequences. The illicit drug trade exacerbates these issues, fueling organized crime, violence, and instability in communities around the globe.
Meanwhile, a large number of students actively participated and pledged under Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan to make their community, family, friends and themselves drug free.
In Karnah sub division, a marathon was organized from GDC Kandi to Boys High School Tangdar which was flagged-off by Principal Higher Secondary School Tangdar, Mohammad Shafi in presence of TSWO and other officials. An awareness programme was also held at Girls Higher Secondary School Tangdar regarding the importance of International Day against drug abuse during which the speakers highlighted the ill effects of drugs.
Social Welfare department Kupwara organized various events in BHSS Kupwara, BHSS Laderwan, HS Gulgam and HS Potushai to commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse.
The International Day against Drug Abuse was also observed in various High and Higher Secondary schools across the district during which different activities including pledges, rallies, marathons, seminars and awareness programmes were held to generate mass awareness against the drug addiction and substance abuse.
