Shopian: National Garbage Men Day was on Saturday organised in the premises of the Mini Secretariat, Shopian with full zeal and enthusiasm in order to appreciate the efforts of sanitation heroes for their services in keeping surroundings clean.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Yar Ali Khan while speaking on the occasion said that the major focus of the administration is to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene across the district.
While addressing newly engaged sanitation works for Panchayats, he stressed upon them to act as ambassadors of sanitation and cleanliness by creating awareness among the masses for proper disposal of waste.
He also appealed to the general public to keep their environment safe and pollution free and support these sanitation workers to maximize their potential in ensuring cleanliness at grassroots level.
In the event, participation of elected representatives was highly appreciated and the general public was appealed to provide full support to the efforts of the administration for the purpose of Swatch Villages.
On the eve of this event, sanitation workers were facilitated with protection gears like Uniform, Gloves and Hand Carts.
Among others, Joint Director, Planning, Shopian, Khursheed Ahmed Khatana, Assistant Commissioner, Panchayat, Manzoor Ahamd, BDOs and other concerned were present.
