Srinagar, June 16: Five foreign militants have been killed in a gunfight that erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
The gunfight erupted on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday after the Army and police launched a joint anti-infiltration operation in Jumgund area along the LoC in Kupwara. In a tweet the Additional Director General Police Vijay Kumar said that five foreign militants killed in encounter, adding therein that Search in the area is going on.
In the wee hours of Friday, police tweeted that an encounter had started between the militants and joint parties of army and police on a specific input of Kupwara police in Jumgund area of the LoC in Kupwara.This marks the second gunfight in the district this week. Earlier, on Tuesday, security forces carried out a joint operation in Machil sector, resulting in the elimination of two militants.
