DLSA G’bal organises Legal Awareness Prog on ‘Women’s Rights & Violence against Women’

Ganderbal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal on Wednesday organised a legal awareness programme on “Women’s rights and violence against women” in collaboration with School of Legal Studies, Department of Law, Central University of Kashmir, Tulmulla, Ganderbal, under the auspices of J&K Legal Services Authority and as per the calendar of activities for the month of June, 2023.
The programme was held under the supervision of Chairman DLSA Ganderbal, Ritesh Kumar Dubey, and under the guidance of Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, Nusrat Ali Hakak.
The awareness programme was aimed at educating the masses about women’s rights and ways to prevent violence against women. DLSA, Ganderbal believes that providing education and increasing awareness about a topic as crucial as women’s rights gives society the tools it needs to challenge discrimination and enforce this in-demand change.
Sub-Judge/ Secretary of DLSA Ganderbal, highlighted women and her legal rights under various laws like the constitution of India which provides equality of status to women. Besides constitutional laws she also spoke about women rights under other number of Laws like The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Laws on Acid Attack, Rape, Dowry Death, Abetment of suicide, Cruelty, outraging the modesty of Women, Sexual harassment, Assault, Voyeurism, Stalking, Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, POCSO Act, etc.
She further added that as responsible citizens, we have a duty to speak against women violence and protect the rights of women in our society. She said we must work towards creating an environment that is safe and secure for women, and the need is to educate ourselves and others about the importance of respecting women’s rights.
Mudasir Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir, emphasized the necessity of developing greater respect and protection for women’s rights. He also shed light on the damaging outcomes of violence against women and the steps that can be taken to put an end to it.
He spoke about the Indian Constitution & society’s responsibility towards the protection and empowerment of women, and applauded the initiative.
Asif Mustafa also spoke about the concept of equality as the basic structure of the constitution of India and also highlighted the approach of the Supreme Court while delivering gender equality judgments. He further added that educating young minds is the key to creating a gender-equal society where every individual has equal rights and opportunities.
The initiative was well-received by the participants i.e. the Law students from School of Legal Studies, Department of Law, Central University of Kashmir Tulmulla, Ganderbal who also participated actively in the programme & spoke on the occasion.
The event was attended by Nusrat Ali Hakak, Sub-judge/ Secretary, DLSA, Ganderbal; Mudasir Bhat, Assistant Professor from School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir; Gulafroz Khan Legal Assistant, DLSA, Ganderbal; Asif Mustafa (ALADC), staff members from DLSA Ganderbal, Law students from Central University of Kashmir, Tulmulla, Ganderbal, etc.
