LeT chief, associate killed in Nowgan in Srinagar outskirts

Srinagar: The Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) chief Abu Ismail and his associate, both residents of Pakistan, were killed in an encounter in Nowgam in the outskirts of Srinagar Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile authorities have suspended teaching work in five police stations in Srinagar city and imposed restrictions in colleges and schools in this summer capital today (Friday).
IGP Kasjmir Munir Ahmad Khan said “It was a major success for the security forces and compliment all the personnel who took part in the operation” He said on a tip off Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashitriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF conducted a search operation in Arigam area of Nowgam in the city outskirts Thursday afternoon. The area was sealed and when the search operation was laucnhed a direct contact was established with the militants exactly at 1615 hours.
In the brief encounter without any collateral damage two militants were killed, Khan said adding later the militants were identified on the basis of so many evidences.
The IGP said that the slain militants were identified as Abdu Islam and Abu Qasim of LeT, both the residents of Pakistan. Two Ak rifles, UBGLs and other arms and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were involved in several militancy related incidents,including attack on bus carrying Amarnath yatries in Anantnag in which 8 pilgrims were killed and about 20 others were injured on June 11 night.
He said Abu Islam was also invovled in atleast 15 other FIRs, which included cases, murder, dacoity and other militancy related incidents.
“ I take this opportunity to compliment team of Army, police and CRPF for clean operation without any collateral damage”, he said adding it was great success for security forces. Now the militants are killed and this operation has been closed and we will start our work afresh again, he said.
Meanwhile, mobile internet of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchat Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been suspended in Srinagar immediately after the killing of militants, badly affecting media persons, professionals, including doctors and students.
“In compliance with Government Instructions Data services have been blocked”, the Jio network said.
According to the District Magistrate Srinagar, restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC will remain in force under the jurisdiction of Police Stations, Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal, in district Srinagar on September 15 (Friday) as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
According to the District Magistrate Srinagar, teaching activity will remain suspended in all Colleges and Schools in Srinagar District tomorrow on 15 September 2017.
