DLSA Samba: Students of GGHSS Jakh acquainted with Protection against Domestic Violence, Dowry Prohibition Acts

Samba : District Legal Services Authority, Samba on Wednesday organized an awareness program on ‘’Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961’’ and ‘’The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005’’ here in Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Jakh, Samba.
The event was held under the aegis of JKLSA and as per the Action plan for the month of May, 2023 issued by Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority(JKLSA) and also under the radiant guidance of Yesh Paul Kotwal, Worthy Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Samba(Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge Samba).
Versha Anthal, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel System was the resource person. She deliberated upon how ‘’Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961’’ prohibits and penalizes giving or taking of dowry so as to safeguard women against dowry harassment. While addressing the students, she also stressed upon protecting women’s rights and promoting gender equality and as to how to provide protection to victims of domestic violence under the ‘’Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005’’.
The objective of organizing this awareness camp was to sensitize the students about the social evil of dowry system and about the different provisions of the ‘’Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005’’ enacted by the Parliament for the protection of women from domestic abuse in the matrimonial home.
Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary, DLSA Samba also spoke on the occasion. At the end of the Program, Shiv Rachna, Principal, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Jakh, Samba presented vote of thanks to the District Legal Services Authority Samba for arranging this awareness program in their school.
The proceedings of the program were coordinated by Pardeep Kour, Lecturer Environmental Science, Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Jakh, Samba. The program was attended by students, faculty members of the Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Jakh, Samba and Para Legal Volunteers of District Legal Services Authority Samba.
