ADGP Armed felicitates JKP Basketball team for winning Gold Medal

Srinagar : S. J. M. Gillani-IPS Additional Director General of Police, Armed, J&K on Tuesday felicitated Central Basketball Team of J&K Police for emerging as overall Champion and winning Gold Medal in Invitational Basketball Tournament-2023 organized by Basketball Association of Himachal Pradesh.
According to a statement issued from APHQ Media Cell, while congratulating the JKP Basketball team, the ADGP Armed appreciated the hard work of Coaches/ Captain in honing the team which lead to such a wonderful feat.
Police in its statement said that the Invitational Tournament was held at Sanghol District Kangra (Himachal Pradesh) from May 13, 2023 to May 16, 2023. 21 Teams from different States/ UTs of North India including teams of Professional Clubs from across the country participated in the tournament. J&K Police Basketball team which represented J&K Police, initially played and won 3 matches and qualified for pool play
Thereafter, the JKP team played with 8 Dogra team and won the same by 80-53 scores in quarterfinal. In semi-final, JKP team played against 21 Punjab and won the same by 102-79 scores and thus qualified for final match. The final competition was played between JKP Team and Punjab Sixers which was won by J&K Police team by 81-79 scores. J&K Police team emerged as overall Champion of the tournament and won the Gold Medal.
Besides, the Basketball team of J&K Police headed by Captain Sumit Kumar comprised of 10 players Sunit Kumar, Vishal Sharma, Vishal Choudhary, Rajat Singh, Avinash Dingra, Sachin Dogra, Rishab Singh, Rahul Manhas & Shubam Bhardwaj and two coaches, Senior Coach Amit Bharti and Asstt. Coach Iqbal Singh. Shubam Sharma and Sumit Kumar were adjudged as the best scorer of the Tournament whereas Iqbal Singh was adjudged as the player of the tournament.
The felicitation ceremony held on the other day in Armed Police Headquarters J&K Srinagar was attended by Staff Officer to ADGP Armed J&K Mahmood Ahmed SSP, Pvt. Secretary to ADGP Armed J&K Syed Sajad Hussain, Dy.SP (Sports) APHQ Kuldeep Handoo, PA to ADGP Armed Sh. Abdul Rashid-SI(S), I/C Sports Branch APHQ Mushtaq Ahmad-SI besides the Coaches and members of J&K Police Basketball team.
