Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested 5 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Awantipora and Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Sheeri under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Sajjad Bukhari at a checkpoint established at Sheeri Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 50 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession, adding therein that the accused has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Maqbool Dar R/o Heewan Sheeri
Stating that the above named accused has been subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement said that in Awantipora also, a police party of Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Hatiwara intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK13A-6345 driven by one person, adding therein that during checking, 45 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession following which was identified as Showkat Ahmad Ahanger /S/o Mohd Younis Ahanger R/o Chandahara Pampore after which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
In Kulgam district also Police said that a Police party led by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar intercepted a suspicious person during naka checking at Furrah, adding therein that during checking, 120 grams of Charas like substance and 60 grams of Cannabis powder like substance were recovered from his possession following which the accused was identified as Javed Ahmad Bhat S/o Gul Mohammad Bhat R/o Furrah, Qazigund.
Stating that two more drug peddlers were arrested during naka checking at Nassu Crossing identified as Raof Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Ramzan Ganie R/o Nassu and Rayees Ahmad Wani S/o Abdul Razzaq Ahmad Wani R/o Tangloo, Qazigund , Police in it’s statement said that during searches 38 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from their possession following which they were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
Police in a concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reassured people to act tough against the criminals as per law.
