Srinagar : Police on Sunday that it has seized 16 vehicles and also arrested 16 persons for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during the last 15 days in District Ganderbal.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, Special Police teams were constituted led by SHOs and DOs of PSs and PPs of Ganderbal under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan & DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Gh Hassan to check the menace of illegal mining in the district. Police in it’s statement further said that during the course of action, 16 persons were arrested and 16 vehicles (Tippers) were seized on the spot during the last fifteen days, adding therein that the said vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted Bajri/Sand & Boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal.
Stating that it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation is in progress, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
