Youth must embrace Allama Iqbal’s concept of humanism: VC KU

Srinagar The Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, University of Kashmir, on Friday organised an extension lecture on ‘Allama Iqbal’s Concept of Humanism and World Peace’.
According to a statement issued from Centre for Public Relations, University of Kashmir, Srinagar Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan presided over the lecture session as chief guest.
In her presidential remarks, Prof Nilofer said that Iqbal Institute is a very important research centre in the University which has a rich legacy of organising seminars and lectures on various important themes related to the life and works of Allama Iqbal (RA).
Saying that the theme of the lecture is both relevant and significant for all times to come, the Vice-Chancellor said the core message in Allama Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy holds true for whole mankind and will continue to remain so.
“Such lecture sessions are very important for young students and research scholars to develop a true understanding of the concept of ‘humanism’ which is based on great ideals and cherished values of human welfare, social ethics, universality, love, peace and justice,” she said, urging youth need to understand and embrace these great ideals to move forward in life and become the ambassadors of Allama Iqbal’s message of humanism.
The Vice-Chancellor also released 28th edition of ‘Iqbaliyat’, the annual research magazine of IICP, and a book titled ‘Iqbal and Indian Heritage’ authored by Mr Chaman Lal Raina.
In his extension lecture, Dr Taqi Abidi, a renowned scholar of Urdu and Iqbal Studies, dwelt at length on varied aspects of Allama Iqbal’s philosophy and its linkage with the concept of humanism.
“Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy are great gifts for mankind and it is important to understand the true meaning of this philosophy and poetry to benefit from the real message contained therein,” Prof Abidi said.
Prof G M Sangmi, Head, Department of Commerce KU and Prof Aijaz Mohammad Sheikh, Head, Department of Urdu, KU, also shared the dais.
Earlier, Coordinator, IICP, Dr Mushtaq Ganai, spelt out the achievements of the Institute in promoting teachings, research and extension education on varied aspects of life and works of Allama Iqbal (RA). He said the Centre is determined to carry forward this mission with more collaborative endeavors.
Dr Mohammad Amin Shah conducted proceedings of the inaugural session, where Prof Abdul Rashid Bhat delivered the vote of thanks.
The inaugural session was attended by a galaxy of academicians, students and research scholars.
