Srinagar : The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JK-LSA) on Monday organised an Awareness programme cum capacity building programme (CBP) for Panel Lawyers and Young Lawyers of district Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal.
The theme of the programme was “Effective Legal Aid for Marginalized Sections of Society”.
The programme was organized under the leadership of the Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, patron in chief of Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority and on the directions of Justice Tashi Rabstan (Executive Chairman JK LSA), under the able guidance of Jawad Ahmad (Chairman DLSA Srinagar) and under the supervision of Amit Gupta (Member Secretary JK LSA).
Vijay Hansaria, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India was the Chief Guest and the resource person on the occasion.
The training programme was organized with intent to enhance and nurture the credibility of the justice delivery system at the grass roots level.
The main motive behind conducting this event was to discuss how the poor and disadvantaged sections of society can be provided basic legal services, which the more affluent enjoy and the intention behind seeking to involve Panel Lawyers and young lawyers is to strengthen the cooperation between them and the legal services with the grass roots organizations in educating the poor and disadvantaged groups about their rights and how the law can be used to secure these rights.
Vijay Hansaria, speaking on the occasion emphasized on the need to erase the creases of injustice and to make justice accessible to every vulnerable section of society, which should be the mission of DLSAs and every lawyer, should spread the awareness regarding the concept of access to justice for all.
To achieve these goals, it should be the endeavour of DLSAs to train the lawyers to act as Pro-Bono volunteers for working for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of society to educate them about their rights and giving them necessary and legal social assistance by acting as a link between communities and the legal services organizations.
Sr. Advocate, Vijay Hansaria acquainted the participants with the milieu and ethos of the legal services authority from base to an advanced level.
The session was an interactive one, wherein the participants with all their zeal and enthusiasm participated by raising various questions in the session.
Further, he also threw light on the procedure and the methods to be inculcated by the lawyers for effective implementation of access to justice for the marginalized sections of society.
The participants besides being given substantial knowledge were also given actual examples and case study by way of which it was easier to understand the complex provisions and therefore, the session was tremendously engaging.
The programme was conducted by Fozia Paul, Secretary DLSA Srinagar (Additional charge of DLSA Budgam), who earlier welcomed the Chief Guest and all the participants and also moderated the whole programme.
Advocate Saad Ganaie (Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel) presented the memento to the Chief Guest, while as in the end Advocate Tasneem (Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel) presented the vote of thanks.
