DC Kupwara chairs NCORD meeting

DM seeks cooperation from families, parents to overcome the drug menace

Kupwara: To review steps taken to curb drug abuse in the district, a meeting of District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held Thursday under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Dr.DoifodeSagarDattatray at DC Office Complex, here on Thursday.
At the outset, the DC reviewed various issues related to menace of drug addiction, areas of concern, it’s hot spots besides, measures undertaken to break the chain of drug peddling and its consumption in the district to save youth from the ill effects of the drugs abuse.
He directed the concerned to devise a comprehensive plan to reach-out to the drug affected persons for their smooth recovery.
“There is urgent need to conduct awareness campaigns on mass scale against drug menace. Some prominent movies that project rehabilitation of drug de-addiction may be screened in educational institutions”, said the DC.
The DC directed Chief Education Officer Kupwara and Principals of degree colleges to organise awareness camps in educational institutions and make a schedule of awareness camps, seminars in educational institutions and sensitization of students about drug menace.
He also directed the concerned officers to utilise the services of ASHA workers, PRIs, Numberdars and Chowkidars so that a database of drug addicts is prepared and they are rehabilitated properly
On the occasion, the DC stressed upon the Officers of all the line Departments including Enforcement agencies to ensure better coordination in enforcing greater deterrence to combat dangerous trade of drug-trafficking. He said that efforts with cooperation, coordination and collaboration are vital to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain, besides taking stringent action against the culprits involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.
The DC said in order to combat this rising societal problem, multi-pronged Rehabilitation, Counselling and Guidance policy is indispensable to be implemented on ground to monitor drug abuse and take remedial measures to curb the menace.
He sought cooperation from the families particularly from parents to overcome the menace among the youth which also leads to other social evils and crimes.
The DC said the drug menace is a major threat to the socio-economic structure and it has become imperative for the entire society to come together to uproot this menace and work as a strong entity to make Kupwara district a healthy and drugs free District.
On the ocasion SSP Kupwara YougalManhas and SP Handwara SheemaNabi said that police and other security agencies have adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers and intensified their vigil.
Other officers shared their views, suggestions and measures to be taken.
ADC Kupwara, GhulamNabiBhat; CMO Kupwara, CEO Kupwara, Excise and Taxation officer North Kashmir, Tehsildars and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
