Bandipora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, DrOwais Ahmad on Wednesday attended a public interaction programme of Bonkoot Block of the district held at Mini Secretariat, here on Wednesday.
A large gathering of people assembled at the venue to apprise the DC about their issues.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Owais stressed on strict implementation of JalJeevan Mission to ensure tapped drinking water is provided to every household.
He said the government has been generous to provide the highest ever budget allocation of Rs 500 crores to the district for implementation of the JJM so that every household gets tapped water.
DrOwais said the district Bandipora was the first district to launch a door to door census in 2019-20 for coverage of functional Household Tap connections, quality supply and working quantity requirements in J&K. “A book was compiled with panchayat wise results which was appreciated by all,” he said.
DC said after the census government started the mission to implement JJM and soon the district will achieve the target of providing pure drinking water to people.
DrOwais also stressed officers to work on exploring the tourism potential of all the blocks of the district. He said Bandipora district has a huge potential of tourism that can provide employment and upgrade the socio-economic status of the people.
He asked officers to hold festivals and carnivals to attract tourists besides exploring the tourism potential.
DrOwais also urged the officers to ensure the ongoing projects are completed well in time with priority to education and healthcare.
Earlier, ACP briefed the DC about the implementation of rural sanitation. DrOwais said VLWs have to play a major role for implementation of the rural sanitation programme.
He also stressed on devising village specific waste management programmes and ensuring solid waste is disposed-off properly. He said each panchayat should select persons who will be responsible to make each village waste free.
ACP also said a special focus is being laid on sanitation in Panchayat and Rs 2 lakh has been provided to every halka to clean the drains and rivulets besides dumping the garbage at suitable places.
He said this activity will be followed by providing dustbins and later two persons in villages will be selected to collect wastes everyday to ensure a clean village.
DrOwais gave patient hearing to the audience and assured them that their grievances will be taken to logical conclusion.
Dr. Owais said that people do not have to run from pillar to post to get their work done and urged the public to avail the benefits of online services.
DrOwais also highlighted the ill effects of drug menace in the society and urged people to fight the war against drug abuse together by cooperating with the law enforcing agencies.
