New Delhi: The Indian Army’s 30-bedded field hospital set up in quake-hit Turkiye has started functioning, with the running of its medical, surgical and emergency wards, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday.
In a tweet, the Minister said the Indian Army field hospital in Iskenderun, in Hatay province in southern Turkiye that was badly hit in the 7.8-Richter quake that shook the country on Monday, will work round the clock to provide relief to the affected people.
“The army field hospital in Iskenderun, Hatay, Türkiye has started functioning with running Medical, Surgical & Emergency Wards; X-Ray Lab & Medical Store. @adgpi team will work 24 x 7 to provide relief to the affected people,” he posted.
The field hospital in Hatay, set up under Operation Dost, is equipped with X-Ray machines, ventilators, an Operation Theatre and critical care specialists to treat emergencies.
India has also deployed over 150 NDRF personnel for rescue and relief operations, along with dog squads, specialized equipment, vehicles and supplies that allows for detection, location, access and extrication of people trapped under collapsed structures.
India’s humanitarian outreach came as the death toll from Monday’s temblor in Turkiye mounted to over 9,000, with around 2,000 dead in neighbouring Syria.
