January 26: Day Celebrated With Patriotic Fervour

India’s Republic Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism across the country. It is marked by parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and sports events. The main event is a grand parade held in the capital, New Delhi, which is attended by the President of India and other dignitaries. The parade showcases the cultural and social diversity of the country, as well as the achievements of the government and defense services in various fields. In addition to the parade, cultural programs, sports events and competitions are held in schools and community centers. The day is also marked by the hoisting of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem.On this Republic Day, let us take a moment to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, who fought for the independence and sovereignty of our nation. The Constitution of India, which came into effect on this day in 1950, guarantees certain fundamental rights to all its citizens and provides a framework for the government to function in a transparent and accountable manner. As we celebrate this day, let us also remember that we have much work to do to ensure that these values are upheld and that every citizen has access to education, healthcare, and a fair chance to succeed. It is our collective responsibility to build a better future for all and to create a more equitable and prosperous society. On this Republic Day, let us pledge to work towards making our country stronger and more united, and to build a brighter future for all. Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950. While India gained independence from the British Raj in 1947, it wasn’t until January 26, 1950, that the Constitution of India came into effect, and the country became a sovereign state, declaring it a republic. The Constituent Assembly held its first session on December 9, 1946, and the last on November 26, 1949, and then the Constitution was adopted a year later. Dr BR Ambedkar headed the Drafting Committee of the Constitution.
On this day, India also marks Constitution Day. Republic Day commemorates the spirit of independent India. On this day, in 1930, the Indian National Congress proclaimed PurnaSwaraj from colonial rule. Republic Day also commemorates Indian citizens’ power to choose their government democratically. India became independent of the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947. India did not have a permanent constitution at this time. The drafting committee presented the constitution’s first draft to the national assembly on November 4, 1947. The national assembly signed the final English and Hindi language versions of the constitution on January 24, 1950. India’s constitution came into effect on Republic Day, January 26, 1950. This date was chosen as it was the anniversary of PurnaSwaraj Day, which was held on January 26, 1930.The constitution gave India’s citizens the power to govern themselves by choosing their own government. Dr Rajendra Prasad took oath as India’s first president at the Durbar Hall in the Government House, followed by a residential drive along a route to the Irwin Stadium, where he unfurled India’s national flag. Ever since the historic day, January 26 is celebrated with festivities and patriotic fervour across India. Republic Day is directly connected to the Constitution of India which is the supreme law of this country. The constitution directs the core instituting the political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens. It ensures India as a secular, sovereign, socialist, democratic republic, assuring it’s citizens justice, equality and liberty, and fraternity.
