GCoE Jammu, Ayush start Arogya Vidya- Educate the Educator Initiative to train teachers in strengths of Ayurveda

Jammu : Directorate of Ayush J&K and Govt College of Education on Tuesday took a novel initiative to train the prospective teachers i.e. students of B.Ed and M.Ed courses in the strengths of Ayush system for self care and to develop health promoting schools.
Under the initiative, a 10 day, 30 day credit value added course was started in GCoE with technical assistance from the Directorate of Ayush J&K.
The exemplary value added course was conceived and implemented under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Singh Director Ayush J&K and Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal Govt. College of Education.
In all 30 students were enrolled in the course. The course was based on the learning by doing methodology in which prospective teachers were made aware about principles and practices of holistic health and healthy living i.e. Dincharya (Daily wellness regimen), Ritucharya (Seasonal Wellness Regimen), Sadvrutta (Health code of conduct), Home remedies, medicinal plants, Yoga, Naturopathy, Panchkarma etc.
The students enrolled in the program were also imparted practical training of all the components of Ayush through onsite demonstrations at Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital and Ayush Health and Wellness centers.
An on- site training was also held at AHWC Smailpur so that prospective teachers get hands-on training and role of teachers in promotion of the health of students.
At the end of the course, an online test was also conducted in which all the students passed in flying colors. The module of course was designed by Prof. RajinderKaur from Govt. College of Education and Dr. Arun Gupta from Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu.
The valedictory function was organized in the premises of Directorate of Ayush J&K, wherein the students of the course were given certificates of course completion. The function was presided over by Prof. Aekta Gupta and Dr. Mohan Singh.
At the outset, Rapporteur Sunakshi Rajput presented a detailed outline of the 10 day program. In her address, Prof. Aekta Gupta congratulated the students and faculty of the course for successful completion of the first batch of ArogyaVidya course and reiterated the need of convergence between the two departments so that the prospective teachers are better equipped to develop each and every school as a health promoting schools based on the principles and practices of Ayu
The students shared their experiences of the Arogyavidya course and were emphatic to utilize their learning to transform their own health and the health of their pupils. The dignitaries also presented certificates of appreciation to the organizers and resource persons from the two departments.
The valedictory was also attended by the faculty members of Govt. College of Education Dr. Anju, Dr. JyotiParihar, Prof. RajinderKaur and ShaliniRana. The course was coordinated by NeerajVerma, ShapiaShammem and Dr. Deep Bangotra.
