JCO, 2 soldiers die in a narrow snow track in Kupwara’s Machil Sector, bodies recovered: Army

Srinagar: Three soldiers, two from Himachal Pradesh and one from Jammu & Kashmir, died on Tuesday this week (January 10) at about 5.30 P.M when they were moving towards a forward post through a narrow snow track in connection with a regular operational task in Machhal Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district and slipped into a deep gorge . Meanwhile Jammu & Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinh has condoled the deaths of all the three army personnel and sympathised the bereaved families.
In a statement issued on Wednesday a spokesman of Srinagar based 15 Chinar cops said that a routine operational task was undertaken on January 10 at about 5:30 PM in Machhal Sector, along a narrow winter track but while moving towards the forward post, snow along the narrow track broke, leading to slipping of one JCO and two Jawaans into a deep gorge.
Stating that a search and rescue operation was immediately launched with troops from the nearest post, the spokesman of 15 Chinar Corps said in the above referred statement that inspite of adverse weather condition and rough terrain, sustained efforts of the search party led to the recovery of mortal remains of all the three brave soldiers Wednesday morning between 4:15 to 4:45 AM.
Sharing the service career and residential details of all the three soldiers who died in the narrow snow track in Machil Sector Of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district the spokesman of Srinagar based 15 Chinar Corps said “Late Nb Sub Parshotam Kumar was forty-three years old and had joined Army in 1996. He belonged to Village Majua Uttami, Post Raika, Tehsil, Bishnah, District Jammu in J&K. The soldier is survived by his wife and two children”,adding that “Late Hav Amrik Singh was thirty-nine years old and had joined Army in 2001. He belonged to Village Mandwara, Post Marwari, Tehsil Ghanari, District Una in Himachal Pradesh. The soldier is survived by his wife and one son”. The spokesman of Srinagar based15 Chinar Corps in his above quoted statement further more said “Late Amit Sharma was twenty-three years old and had joined Army in 2019. He belonged to Village Talasi Khurd, Post Kirwin, Tehsil Hamirpur, District Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. The braveheart is survived by his mother”.
In the concluding para of his statement the spokesman of Srinagar based15 Chinar Corps said thAT bodies of all the three soldiers will be taken for last rites to their respective native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours, Stating therein further that ” In this hour of grief, the Indian Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families and remains committed to their dignity and well being”.
Condoling the deaths of all the three army personnel the Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha in a tweet said that: “I salute the resolute courage of our brave heart army personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty in Machil Sector, Kupwara. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families of martyrs. Their sacrifice and selfless service to the nation will always be remembered.”
