DLSA Jmu, Social Welfare Deptt organise Spl awareness drive on “Gender Sensitization, Sexual Violence Prevention”

Jammu: District Social Welfare Office Jammu, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),Jammu on Wednesday organized a special awareness drive on “Gender Sensitization and Sexual Violence Prevention” with special emphasis on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplaces (Prevention, Prohibition &Redressal) Act, 2013.
Around 100 supervisors &anganwadi workers were present in the event organised in the Office of Mission Shakti, District hub for Empowerment of women Jammu under the supervision of District Social welfare officer, Mamta Rajput and YahayaFirdous, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu and officials of District Hub for Empowerment of women, Mission Shakti &Sakhi OSC Jammu.
District Social Welfare Officer Mamta Rajput stressed on creating awareness regarding gender issues and working towards and creating an enabling environment of gender justice where men and women can work together with a sense of personal security and dignity. She further highlighted the theme “Gender Sensitization and Sexual Violence Prevention” with special emphasis on sexual harassment of women at workplaces . She also encouraged the womenfolk to come forward in case of victimization & register the complaint without any reluctance and asked the people for cooperation and encouragement of the victim / survivor to file a case.
YahayaFirdous, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu highlighted different laws and provisions pertaining to Gender Sensitization and prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at workplaces. He also explained how a person’s body language plays an important role in understanding what he or she feels.
Resources person of DLSA, AdvShalaRafiqi discussed about various forms of sexual harassment (verbal, physical, visual). Another resources person of DLSA, Adv. Mayank Gupta defined different kinds of harassment and the law and sections to register a complaint against the culprit.
District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, DHEW ShagunManchanda highlighted the importance of gender sensitization and bringing gender equality in society by actively empowering the thoughts of the people.
Staff of District Hub for empowerment of women Jammu &Shaki One Stop centre Jammu, Social Welfare Department officials, supervisors &anganwadi workers of ICDS attended the program.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Khushbookapthe, Gender Specialist, DHEW Jammu.
