National Mathematics Day: Faculty of Fisheries, Social Sciences Divn holds 1-day National Conference

Srinagar : One Day National Conference on “Mathematics For All” was held at Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-K to commemorate 135th Birth Anniversary of great mathematician Srinavasa Ramanujun..
According to a statement issued by Faculty of Fisheries, Social Sciences Division S K University of Agriculture Sciences & Technology Kashmir the conference was organised by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy, SKUAST-K.
Professor Farooz Ahmad Bhat, I/C Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K formally inaugurated the conference. The organizer, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat (Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy) introduced the audience about the conference programme and delivered the welcome address. In his brief speech he told every year on December 22, India celebrates National Mathematics Day to mark the birth anniversary of Ramanujan. In 2012, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Declared the date as National Mathematics Day to honour this great man. He said the purpose of celebrating this day is to raise awareness about the importance of Mathematics in daily lives, and how Mathematics plays a major role not only as a subject but as a development factor in an individual’s daily life. From the ancient times people used this Mathematical language in many aspects while building a pyramid, or house even today’s Modern buildings to solve or research about a scientific element or finding any theory, mathematics is used everywhere. As the main objective behind the celebration is to raise awareness among people about the importance of mathematics for the development of humanity. So, we decided to organize this National Conference on this day. He concluded by these words, dear God, May we, through your blessings, add purity to the world, subtract evil from our lives, multiply your good news and divide your gifts and share them with others. Book entitle ‘STATISTICS AND RESEARCH IN THE FACE OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC’ by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Professor & Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy was released. The Book contains chapters on Statistics, Mathematics, Statistical Softwares, Agriculture an allied subjects. In the first technical session there were two guest speakers Professor (Dr.) Pirzada Shariefuddin, Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir and Professor (Dr.) Tariq Ahmad Chisti, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir. The first speaker in his speech discussed the applications of Mathematics in different fields. The speaker touched application of Mathematics in daily life to create interest towards mathematics among students working in different fields. In the second lecture, the worthy spoke about the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contribution to Mathematics. In the technical session second there were two speakers Er Ab. Rashid Bhat, EMMR, University of Kashmir, J&K and Dr. Mohammad Maroof Shah, Assistant Director, Sheep Breeding Farm Kralpathri. The first speaker in this session showed documentary on climate change and discussed impact of climate change in detail. The second speaker of this session talked on topic Mathematics and Life:Why Mathematics Literacy is Important. He explained in simple words relation of mathematics with religion, philosophy, psychology, medicine, poetry etc. In the technical session there were paper presentations offline/online. In the conference more than 100 researchers participated across the country and 15 scholars presented their papers via oral/poster form. Misba, Abid, Keezia, Dr. Asim, Samreena and others presented papers related to different fields. A number of researchers were present via online mode and shared their knowledge. Professor Rahul Gupta, Professor Parmil Kumar, Professor Manish Kumar Sharma, Altaf Husain Haji, Dr Sajad Saraf despite their busy schedule joined via online. At the end of the day, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, organizing Secretary of the conference summed up the event. He thanked Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, I/C Dean, FoFy, Scientists/Scholars/Dean/Directors for their support. The organizing team especially Dr Nasir Husain, Dr. Hanuman L.Verma, Mr Tahir, Ms. Namia, Ms. Lubna, Mr. Umer, Mr. Aziz, Samreen, Manzoor, Irfan, Inam, Mr. Zehran were acknowledged. The organizer finally prayed for those dear ones who used to be around us but are no more with us physically and thanked press and media especially Shaqkat Bukhari, Editor Kashmir Horizon for coverage of our program. The participants thanked organisers for organizing this very successful conference. They told conference has been a great success in all possible respects and hope in future such programs will continue. The session was formally closed by Dr. Imtiyaz Qayoom by presenting Vote of thanks.
