Free Fibroscan camp organised in Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar

Jammu: A Free Fibroscan camp was Friday held here in the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar under the guidance of Dr. Saleem-Ur-Rehman, DG, FW, MCH & Immunization & Director Health Services, Jammu.
Fibroscan is a type of Liver Special Ultrasound Technology that measures liver stiffness & fatty changes in the liver and can predict the outcome of liver diseases. These measurements can help health care providers learn more about the patient’s liver disease.
Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu organized the camp in the Gastroenterology OPD under the supervision of Dr. Shashank Sharma, Gastroenterologist, Dr. Rakesh Verma, Consultant Physician & Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Cardiologist.
As many as 62 patients were screened for Liver diseases as part of NCD screening. Two Patients were detected to have severe liver disease requiring Liver transplantation, six patients were found to have Liver Cirrhosis, 15 had Fibrosis of Liver, 15 Patients were detected to have fatty Liver Disease & remaining 24 were found to be normal.
In the private setup a fibroscan investigation costs Rs 4,000 per patient.
The prevalence of NAFLD (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease) in India is about 09 to 32%. The burden of NAFLD in India is substantial & it significantly impacts the limited health care resources in the country.
NAFLD is a life style disease & fibroscan can predict the outcome of the disease. It has now been included under the NPCDCS programme (National Programme for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes & Cardiovascular diseases & Stroke), along-with Chronic Kidney disease & COPD (Chronic Obstructive Kidney Disease)
