Nothing new in it that hilly areas of Jammu & Kashmir particularly of Kashmir Valley known for their peculiar topographical positions remain cut off from the the plains particularly district headquarters due to which the people of these areas don’t only suffer due to increasing shortage of essential commodities during harshest mid winter season but their inaccessibility to critical healthcare facilities and coaching of their children for lucrative careers are also the grievances left unaddressed for decades together. Since the incumbent Jammu & Kashmir Government has been hugely focusing on welfare of the people and development public infrastructural facilities in all the hilly areas for last more than three years, the expectations of the hapless populations of these hilly areas are rising day after day. While irrefutable fact is that health emergencies and shortage of essential commodities throws up huge challenges for the local civil and police authorities during heavy snowfalls in mid winter months in these hilly areas, the successive popular Governments of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state could not develop roads connecting these areas with plains particularly district headquarters good enough to reduce the intensity of their inaccessibility during mid winter months. Taking a strong note of their inaccessibility to plains of Kashmir Valley particularly district headquarters during the harshest periods of winter the incumbent Government has announced to launch subsidised helicopter services for these areas to address their grievances of inaccessibility during the harsh months of winter starting from Mid December till Mid March. Very rightly the Government has said that the operation of subsidised helicopter services will not only just address the grievances of people on their inaccessibility to basic social services in these hilly areas but winter tourism could also be promoted in such hilly areas after the launch of subsidised helicopter services from this year onwards.
During the reigns of popular governments the Chief Ministers, senior influential ministers and top bureaucrats would often use helicopter services for their tours to hilly tourist places but never ever the helicopter services were used for the facilities to the people of hilly areas. Till roads to these hilly areas are developed for operation of all weather hassle free transportation services, the operation of subsidised helicopter services would hopefully mitigate the sufferings of the people of these hilly areas during harshest period of winter from this year onwards.
