Anantnag : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom on Saturday chaired the District level Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting at DC Office, here.
The DC stressed that role of education and health departments in spreading awareness and appealing students to stay away from the menace is critical. He said that teachers must be sensitized and parents educated and requested to report any unusual behaviour or complains by their wards regarding unscrupulous elements approaching them for using drugs.
The DC said that victims of drug abuse need to be identified and rehabilitated through institutional support. He highlighted the role of Higher and School Education department in this regard.
SSP Anantnag said that awareness creation regarding desisting from illicit cultivation to people is essential. He said that strict action must be taken against those business establishments which are found involved in malpractices.

DFO Anantnag said that bhung cultivation in forest areas have been destroyed from time to time. He said awareness camps have also been held in various areas of the range.
Asst Drug Controller said that as part of regular surveillance on pharmaceutical vendors advisory boards have been installed at all such vending points as well as CCTV cameras have been installed. He said drugs and pharmacists have been sensitized regarding the menace.
The meeting was attended by SSP Anantnag, ADC, SDMs, Principal GDC Boys and Girls, CMO, MS MMABM Hospital, representatives of police from sub divisions, representatives from Drug De Addiction Centres, DSW Anantnag among others.
