Srinagar : SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem on Saturday received Insha Bashir at Srinagar International Airport after attending the award ceremony in New Delhi, couple of days before.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Insha Bashir hails from the Beerwah area of district Budgam and is a female international wheelchair basketball player who represented India in the United States of America in March 2019. Recently for the first time ever an International Wheelchair Basketball tournament was held in India &she won a Silver Medal. She was conferred with National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment) on 3rd December 2022 by the President of India.
Police said that on the arrival of Insha Bashir, a bouquet was presented to her by SSP Budgam and appreciated her efforts to be role model by overcoming her physical specialty, sitting in a wheelchair and making this wheelchair as wings to chase her dreams. He also said that she has not only set an example for generations to come but became a role model for everyone. He also said that sports is important part of personality development and Insha’s dedication and achievements will encourage youth especially girls to excel in every field despite any odds in their lives. Police said that besides, her various achievements in the field of basketball, she had also co-authored a book, titled “101 Unconventional Strategies”.
