Srinagar : Police in on Friday said that it has busted an extortion racket by arresting 5 accused persons involved in extorting money from the gullible people while impersonating as militants, Stating therein further that fake toy weapons and a vehicle used in the commission of crime have been also recovered from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that on receiving multiple complaints from the residents of Katrasoo, Matibugh and Tarigam and nearby areas about the entry of a group of masked men impersonating as militants into their houses and threatening them with weapons ,extorting money and taking away valuable items from them, Police in it’s above referred statement said that in view the sensitivity of the matter a case vide FIR No. 92/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Yaripora and investigation was initiated.
The Police in it’s statement furthermore said that during the course of investigation, a special team led by SHO PS Yaripora was constituted to investigate the matter following which searches and raids were conducted at various locations to unearth the involved module.
Stating that generating a specific information regarding the involved module, the accused persons were identified and subsequently arrested at a special checkpoint established at Yaripora Kulgam, Police in it’s above quoted statement said that the said accused have been identified as Nazir Mushtaq S/o Mushtaq Ahmed Malik R/o Pinjoora Shopian, Karman Ahmad S/o Mohd Ashraf Deedad R/o Draklarn Abhama, Khalid Hussain R/o Mushtaq Deedad, Rizwan Ah Deedad S/o Mohd Azan and Abrar Ahmad Teedwa S/o Mohd Yosuf Teedwa R/o Sangarwani Pulwama.
“While searching, 2 toy guns, 1 toy pistol, 2 cutters, 5 mobile phones and 5 masks were recovered from their possession. Besides,”, Police said in the above referred statement, adding that “ the vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized. Further investigation into the matter is in progress”.
In the concluding para of it’s statement Police appealed people to remain cautious and report any such incident to the nearest police units and reiterated its resolve to act tough against elements involved in any criminal activities.
