Srinagar : A young female Kashmiri writer from Srinagar district has penned herfirst book “Brande Baras Peth” and bagged Yuva Puraskar 2022 from Sahitya Akademi,New Delhi. Shaista Khan, a short story writer hailing from Soura area of Srinagar district bags Sahitya AkademiAward (Yuva Puraskar) 2022 for her book “Brande Baras Peth”. She begins her writing career when she was in college. She is the youngest Kashmiri language short story writer in current times. She worked hard for writing this book in native language. She has also written many papers on criticism and had reviewed many short stories. Talking to Kashmir Horizonon phone Shaista said, “Everyone is aware of the deteriorating condition of Kashmiri literature, I have made an attempt to revive it and give my best.”Shaista believes that the mother language is the identity of an individual and nobody should hesitate to speak in the mother tongue. “If we will lose our mother tongue, we will lose our identity which means we have lost everything,” she said. It is patent to mention here that Shaista has done her early schooling from Modern Islamia School Soura and then Girls Higher Secondary School, Soura. She had done her B.A from Govt.Women’s College Nawakadal Srinagar. She pursued her higher education through University of Kashmir, Srinagar. Presently Shaista Khan is teachingKashmiri at Higher Education Department, J&K.
