4 drug peddlers arrested in B’gam &Kulgam, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Budgam and Kulgam and also recovered huge cache of contraband substances from their possession.

In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar Police said the PS Khag received inputs about one person namely Abdul Rashid Malik S/o Ghulam Mohammad Malik R/o Shunglipora Khag having kept contraband substances in his residential house at village Shunglipora Khag. Stating that while acting swiftly, a police party of PS Khag along with Executive Magistrate 1st  Class raided the specific location and during searches recovered four Kgs of Cannabis Powder and Nine Kgs of cannabis leaves from the said location, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Stating  that in an another similar action a police party of PP Narbal at a checkpoint established near Railway Bridge Kowoosa Khalisa intercepted two suspicious persons who on seeing the police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully by the alert party, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the said accused have been identified as Bilal Hussain Poswal son of Mohd Khan Poswal resident of Arnas Reasi and Mohd Arif Kasana son of Ab Aziz Kasana resident of Parnod Ramban and during searches four Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from their possession.

“In Kulgam also while acting on a specific information regarding transportation of contraband substances in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kulgam a police party led by SHO PS Kulgam established a special checkpoint at Areha Awhatto Crossing”. Reads the above referred police statement.  Stating that during checking, one suspicious vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing Chassis number NYF 29975 with three persons on board was signalled to stop but the driver after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot who was chased by the alert police party & intercepted tactfully, Police in the above referred statement said that during search of the said vehicle, officers recovered 281.5 Kgs of Poppy Straw packed in 30 Apple Boxes.

Stating that the driver of the said vehicle identified as Showkat Ahmad Naik son of Nazir Ahmad Naik resident of Okey Kulgam , Police in I’s statement further more said that the said driver was arrested and vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, Stating therein further that the two other persons namely Suhail Ahmad Bhat @Sayar son of Mohd Maqbool Bhat resident of Okey Kulgam and Mohd Yaqoob Beigh @Yuka Buda son of Mohd Abdullah Beigh  resident of Jan Mohalla Shopian managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to effect their arrest. “Police later on registered a cases under relevant sections of law at their respective police stations and investigations have been initiated”, reads further the police statement.

In the concluding para of the above referred statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and reiterated that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
