Union MoS Home visits IB, assesses situation on border

Jammu: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir Thursday emphasized expeditious disbursement of relief among the displaced persons (DPs) under one-time settlement package besides speedy construction of transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrants and providing employment opportunities to the migrant youth.
The Minister was speaking during a meeting held to review the implementation of Prime Minister’s Development Package for Rehabilitation of displaced Persons of PoJK 1947 and Chhamb displaced persons of 1965 and 1971.
Members of Parliament Shamsher Singh Manhas and Jugal Kishore Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary Revenue, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, IGP Jammu Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Director (JK-L&M) S C Karol, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) M L Raina, Additional Commissioner, Jammu Rehana Batool, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, PRO, Jammu Mushtaq Malik, besides concerned officers were present in the meeting.
The Minister was informed in the meeting that Rs 2000 crore is to be disbursed to 36384 families from the said groups of displaced persons which was sanctioned by the Prime Minister for one time settlement for their rehabilitation.
The Minster was further informed that there are four designated authorities in the state including Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Custodian (Ex-Officio PRO), Jammu for the submission of cases.
The Union Minister directed the officers to properly scrutinize the cases and upload on the official website on daily basis. He directed to complete the formalities on war footing and send the cases to the Government so that beneficiaries get the first installment under the Prime Minister’s relief package.
Reviewing the schemes for rehabilitation of Kashmiri and Jammu migrants, the Union Minister directed to complete the process of Aadhaar seeding of Bank accounts of beneficiaries at the earliest so that the relief in the form of cash assistance is made through DBT.
The Minister was further informed that an aadhaar Cell has also been created to facilitate aadhaar seeding of Bank accounts of beneficiaries, compilation of data in DBT format and redressal of grievance.
Earlier, the Union Minister accompanied by police and civil administration visited International Border at Ramgarh in Samba and took stock of the situation along the Indo-Pak border.
He interacted with the officers of Border Security Force and lauded their role in protecting the border. He expressed good wishes for jawans and said borders of the country were safe in their hands.
He further apprised them that “the government recognizes their contribution towards national security and is always eager to address their concerns”. He informed the officers about the latest technology gadgets and equipment being inducted in BSF.
The villagers informed the Minister about various local issues including construction of permanent individual bunkers, increase in compensation to persons killed in cross border firing, compensation to the farmers who have land across the fencing etc.
He assured that their genuine demands would be taken up for consideration at the earliest.
The Union Minister also paid obeisance at the shrine of Baba Chamliyal.
