Centrally sponsored schemes implemented in Jammu & Kashmir are fast easing the life of people in both rural and urban areas. The official figures show that several sections of the society covered under several centrally sponsored schemes have experienced a significant change in their socio-economic status.  While the nutrition of the children remains the priority of Jammu & Kashmir Government the changes introduced in the implementation of the mid day meal scheme in Government run schools has improved the nutritional standards of the children in Government schools and significantly majority of the children in government schools belong to families living the below poverty line. What matters the most is the fact the about 8.30 lakh children are benefited by the implementation of mid day meal scheme in Government schools across Jammu and Kashmir. Another centrally sponsored scheme introduced for educational upliftment of children in Government schools is Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan under which 1588 Information Communication Technology labs, 1423 Computer-aided Labs and 803 Vocational Labs have been set up in government schools across Jammu & Kashmir. Significantly uniforms and textbooks too are being provided to more than fifty lac students in Government schools across Jammu & Kashmir and as such this scheme is playing an instrumental role in addressing educational aspirations of the children of those living below the poverty line. Another priority of the Government has been the accessibility of ruralites to livelihoods through implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and this is a scheme which guarantees wage employment to people in rural areas across Jammu & Kashmir.  Primarily the focus on livelihoods in implementation of MGNREGS is parts of the plans executed to raise the incomes and improve skills of poor households in rural areas across Jammu & Kashmir.

While the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in both rural and urban areas is designed to develop infrastructural facilities and improve the delivery of public services in cities and towns, efforts are also on to address the educational concerns of the people living below the poverty line in rural areas across Jammu & Kashmir.

If official figures are to believed about 405.38 Lakh person-days under this scheme have been generated in 2021-22.  What matters the most is the fact that Centrally sponsored schools have not only been implemented in rural areas but projects have been also launched to raise the standards of infrastructural facilities and delivery of basic services in cities and towns also. What matters the most is the fact that more than 100 projects completed under Smart City Projects in Jammu and Srinagar cities  are part of  a process undertaken to make twin capital cities  sustainable and economically vibrant cities. So while the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in both rural and urban areas is designed to develop infrastructural facilities and improve the delivery of public services in cities and towns, efforts are also on to address the educational concerns of the people living below the poverty line in rural areas across Jammu & Kashmir.
