Jammu :  A two day International Conference on ‘Existing Climate Change Scenario and its Arising Risks’  is going to be organized by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu in collaboration with Mahima Research Foundation and Social Welfare, BHU, Varanasi from October 21-22, 2022 at Main Campus Chatha, Jammu here on Wednesday.

The main objective of the two day international conference is to focus on vulnerabilities arising and potential mitigation strategies for sustainable agriculture development and livelihood security under the climate change scenario. The conference will be inaugurated by AtalDulloo, Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, J&K Govt. on 21st October, 2022.

Highlighting the relevance of themes covered in the upcoming international conference, Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Chief Patron said that global warming resulting from climate change has become an issue of serious concern worldwide for the existence of life on the earth. He said that climate change is badly affecting agriculture and allied sectors; posing a serious threat to its sustainability and livelihood security of millions of people across the globe.

Prof. Sharma stated that improved cultivars through breeding for increased harvest index and disease resistance need to be adopted readily during the existing period of climate change. Looking into the multiple challenges of climate change, depleting water resources, declining soil fertility and shrinking agricultural land due to burgeoning population; innovative approaches and techniques like precision agriculture, vertical farming, soilless agriculture and sensor technology are desperately needed for sustainable crop production.

Giving details of the conference, Dr. Brajeshwar Singh, Convener of the international conference informed that there will be eight technical sessions and six poster sessions during two days mega event with more than 300 delegates comprising professionals, researchers, academia, policy makers, extension functionaries, students and representatives of different organizations from India and across the globe.
