Mumbai: Secretary General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on Wednesday described terrorist acts as bad and asserted that fighting terrorism is a top priority of the UN.
He made this assertion during his visit to Hotel Taj today to pay tributes to the martyrs of 26/11 terror attacks. Notably, the luxury hotel located near iconic Gateway of India was one of the multiple sites being targeted by 10 terrorists, who were trained and sponsored by Pakistan.
While interacting with attendees during his visit to the picture exhibition at Hotel Taj here, he said that soon after he assumed charge as the Secretary-General of United Nations, he created a cell to study the root cause of terrorism and suggest measures to fight terrorism, he said.
It gives guidance on necessary measures to combat terrorism, he informed and noted that it is working in coordination with many nations for the same.
Guterres described the 26/11 attack as a very barbaric attack and said people who lost their lives in these attacks are true heroes.
By paying tribute to all of them, he expressed his gratitude.
It may be recalled that 166 people lost their lives in these attacks, including foreign tourists.
On this occasion, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, chief secretary Manu Kumar Srivastava, principal secretary of Royal Etiquette Department Manisha Mhaiskar and other senior officials were present.
