Anantnag :  A mega block diwas was on Wednesday held at Rasool Mir Auditorium Dooru, where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom presided over the event.

The DC also reviewed the development works underway in Dooru subdivision under various schemes.

President MC DooruVerinag, Mohammad Iqbal presented a crisp overview of the development in the sub division. He outlined developmental works completed by MC DooruVerinag, various sanitation drives conducted, awareness through IEC activities to ensure swachta and under the aegis of NashaMukht Bharat Abhiyan as well as measures for solid / liquid waste management including door to door collection of wastes.

The DC gave a patient hearing to various demands aired by PRIs, Auqaf representatives, social activitists and general public. The major demands include provision of electricity in Shistragam area, demarcation of land allotted to MC DooruVerinag, drinking water facility for MagrayMalpora, flyover at Vessu, macadamisation of Kharpora road, ambulance for Larkipora, polling booth for Wankpora, High School for Wankpora, Levdora causeway repair, rurally backward area status to Saidiwara, upgradation of infrastructure at SDH Dooru, ration card for newly separated families and construction of Batpora bridge among others.

On the occasion, the DC issued on spot directions in various matters and assured the aggrieved that matters pertaining to higher authorities will be flagged for appropriate redressal.

He said that Dooru is a culturally rich land with its own historic significance. He said that many citizens from Dooru have made remarkable contributions in various fields particularly in art and culture. He said that the mass participation witnessed during the Block Diwas is a manifestation of their desire for progress and welfare and the administration is committed to aid them in this endeavour.

Reviewing development activity, DrBasharat outlined that timelines must be adhered. He also emphasized quality control and proper supervision of works under execution.

On the sidelines, the DC also felicitated the best performing BLOs from Dooru sub division for their appreciable performance in enrolling citizens as voters during the ongoing SSR of Electoral Rolls.

Prior to this, the DC visited KilamChinar Spring which has been rejuvenated as part of AmritSarovar. It is in place to mention that more than 70 such water bodies had been taken up and rejuvenated under AmritSarovar in Anantnag.

The Block Diwas was attended by DDC Members, JD Planning, SDM Dooru, CMO, ACD, Dy DEO, CEO, BDC Chairpersons, Tehsildars, BDOs, Councillors of MC DooruVerinag, EOs, Sarpanches, members of media fraternity and members of the civil society.

Block Diwas was also held at Larnoo where ADDC Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Wani presided over the event and listened to public grievances.

At Srigufwara, ADC Anantnag, Gulzar Ahmad reviewed the resolution of previous grievances and directed officials from line departments to ensure speedy resolution of genuine grievances.

He said that awareness camps to educate people about various welfare schemes in vogue must be held so that more and more people can benefit from such schemes.
