The launch of 5 G mobile network technology by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the fag end of last week has generate hopes of a  faster and more stable cellular services across the Country and consequently in Jammu & Kashmir as well. Though it is believed that the launch of 5 G mobile network technology would increase the speed by ten times than what is available under 4 G network technology presently but a belief would change into a reality only after the roll out of 5 G cellular network technology across the country. It is also a fact that much faster accessibility to cellular services has also generated fears of a rise in the cost for the cellular services amid hopes that faster accessibility to cellular would most likely open up new opportunities in several key sectors of business, trade and commerce.  What matters the most is the fact that switch over to 5 G cellular services would be the beginning of a new era of digital transformation which would likely mark the beginning of a new era of infrastructural development in the key sectors of economy across the country.  Since cyber crime remains a major concern both for the Government and as well as the people, the switch over to 5 G cellular services has generated hopes of more technological interventions against fast changing trends of cyber crime across the country like other parts of the world.

Though a successful rollout of 5G services could change the working of the Government and consequently it’s war against increasing intensity of cyber crimes in country, but the concern of  every citizen in the country remains the internet speed in view of the experiences of 4G cellular services.   Since complaints against the hassle free internet services have been rising since the roll of 4 G cellular services in the country, the bigger challenge for telecom operators would be successful roll out 5 G services in the country.

While upgradation of cellular services from  2G to 3G and 3G to 4G facilitated introduction of new technological interventions that eased the working of both the Government and as well as different sectors of economy particularly trade, business and commerce but it also led to the introduction of more and more cyber crimes in recent years. Since the switch over to 5G cellular services won’t take less than six months, it is too early to comment on the likely impact of  5G cellular services on Government’s war against cyber crime in the country and the working of trade, business, and commerce .
