DC Srinagar reviews implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-(Grameen)

DM finalizes Action Plan for Door to Door Collection in Panchayats, Community engagement, Stresses on launching massive IEC campaign in view of forthcoming Gandhi Jayanti celebrations

Srinagar : In order for effective and time bound implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission(Grameen) Phase-II in all Panchayats of the District, a meeting of concerned Officers was held on Saturday under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here on Saturday at Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.

Besides, Additional District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, the meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Yaseen Lone, Assistant Commissioner Development, Syed Farooq Ahmad, Executive Engineer RDD, District Panchayat Officer, Block Development Officers of Srinagar, Khonmoh, Harwan, Qamarwari and other concerned.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review about various developmental components taken under Swachh Bharat Mission(Grameen) Phase-II being implemented in all 4 CD Blocks of the District including construction of Solid/Liquid Waste Management, Plastic Waste Management, individual soakage and composite pits.

The DC was apprised that under SBM-G, against the target of constructing 41 individual Soakage pits, 17 have been completed in Srinagar District while work on construction of 28 Composite pits is going on in full swing on remaining components which shall be completed before October 02, 2022.

Regarding the construction of Community Based Solid Waste Management and Liquid Waste Management plants proposed for the current year, the DC was informed that the work has been started and shall becompleted by October 15, 2022.

With regard to construction of IHHL under SBM, Grameen-II, the DC asked the concerned Officers of RDD to hold camps in all Blocks on September 26, 2022 to clear financial liabilities in favour of all genuine individual household beneficiaries for year 2022-23 in the District.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the officers to launch an IEC campaign on a massive scale by involving local PRI members to sensitize the people regarding the importance of cleanliness to maintain hygienic environment/atmosphere in the Panchayats. He also stressed on sensitizing people about segregation of solid and wet waste in their houses for better waste management. He asked the officers to act on a multi-dimensional strategy to provide people the facility of collection of household waste materials at their doorsteps.

During the meeting, the DC finalised the Action Plan for Door to Door Collection in Panchayats. He said Community engagement would be the hallmark for success implementation of the initiative.

Similarly, under Plastic Free Panchayats initiative, the DC directed for launching a massive awareness campaign in all Panchayats of the District by mobilising local people and PRIs so that people are made aware about the ill effects of using plastic/polythene.

The DC also asked the Assistant Commissioner Development to monitor the implementation of all works and ensure efficient and effective implementation Swachh Bharat Mission(Grameen), Phase-II in all Panchayat Block of the District, besides holding periodical review meetings to ensure timely completion of all the works with judicious utilization of funds and quality of works to create the reliable assets for making all villages healthy and clean.

The DC directed the concerned Block Development Officers of the District to work in missionary zeal in creation of requisite infrastructure for disposal of domestic waste materials. He asked the officers to fully involve the local PRIs in the effective implementation of this mission.

On the occasion, it was given out that works for construction of 25 Community Sanitary Complex (CSC), 32 Solid Waste Management, 32 Liquid Waste Management and one each Plastic Waste Management and Faecal Sludge Management (FSM)  have been taken up in Srinagar under SBM (G) Phase-II for the year 2022-23.

Earlier, The DC was given first-hand appraisal of the targets fixed and achievements made so far. The Assistant Commissioner Development gave a brief about the Block wise progress of ongoing works and the work plan under Swachh Bharat Mission(Grameen).
