Ramban :   The NSS Unit and Counselling Cell of the Government Degree College, Ramban on Tuesday organised a seminar on hazards of substance abuse. The event was hosted as part of the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The programme was organized under the direction and support of the Principal of the College, Prof. SubhashChander Sharma and attended by a large number of students and  the   faculty. The event was a follow-up to the numerous educational and awareness-raising events that the College has previously organized in furtherance of NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. SubhashChander Sharma exhorted the students to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and behaviours and abstain from drug or substance misuse, which   not only ruins the personal life of the user but also the life of whole family.

In his presentation, Assistant Professor of Zoology and convener of the Psychological Counselling Cell, BalKrishan stated that youth are more prone to substance misuse because of specific features of their biological development that predispose them to novelty-seeking and risk-taking behaviour. They must be given authentic information and proper counselling about the ill effects of substance abuse.

Prof. Samir Ahmed also spoke on the subject and urged the students to abstain from drug use.

The presentation of students who participated in the seminar   was assessed and graded. RajniChib from semester-IV secured the first position, wheileMohdShoib and Sagar Ram from Semester-I got 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.

The proceedings of the program were conducted by Prof. Younis Ahmad Rather who also interacted with the students on the issue of drug abuse. NSS Program Officer of the college, Prof Vicky Rattan monitored the event’s planning and preparations. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof Ajaz Ahmed.
