DC Sgr chairs meeting of Distt Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

SPCA deliberates upon setting up of Animal Rescue Centre; directs for regular inspection of pet shops to ensure adherence to Norms

Srinagar :  A meeting of District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mohammad AijazAsad here at the Conference Hall of the DC Office here on Monday.

Besides, Additional District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, the meeting was attended by SP Headquarter, Joint Commissioner SMC, SDM East, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, DFO, Urban, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, other concerned and representatives of NGOs.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised by the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer about the constitution of the Committee along with its aims and objectives.

Addressing the meeting, the DC said purpose of District SPCA is to ensure the rights, freedoms and welfare of the animals and to protect and address animal cruelty matters. He stressed on strengthening the committee and formulating a holistic action plan for checking the menace of cruelty to animals.

The DC asked the concerned to conduct onsite inspections of the Pet shops and taking measures for proper regulation of such establishments operating in the District. He stressed on looking into various aspects with regard to proper Pinjras(cage) facilities, hygiene & vaccination.

The DC emphasized on ensuring round the clock veterinary assistance to sick and injured animals. He further asked the concerned to speed up the process for establishment of animal shelters and other amenities to animals incapacitated for work.

During the meeting, the DC assigned the responsibilities of Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Committee to District Animal Husbandry Officer and District Veterinary Officer respectively for better coordination and functioning of the District SPCA.
