My Youth My Pride: Power lifting Championship begins at Jmu

‘Bodybuilding competition for aspirants of Mr India contest being held in Oct end’

Jammu : A 3-day powerlifting championship organized by All J&K Powerlifting Association, in coordination with J&K Sports Council, got underway here in Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu on Friday.

The championship is being played over three days and shall conclude on 18th of this month. More than 200 players including both men and women from five districts of J&K are participating in the event.

Poornima Sharma, Deputy Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation presided over the function as the chief guest and declared the championship open in presence of Ashok Singh Jamwal, Sports Officer Jammu along with concerned association office bearers, participants and spectators. The participants showcasing their talent in the competition shall be fielded in the J&K team for participation in the Senior National Championship 2022 later this year.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, “We should be thankful to the administration for its commendable initiative to promote games at grassroots level by organizing sports events under My Youth My Pride and by way of this programme reaching to even the far flung areas of J&K.

Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu, while encouraging the participants, said that youth of the J&K should take active part in games and sports for overall personality development as sports develops teamwork and leadership qualities among the individual.

The championship, sponsored by J&K Sports Council, was organized by District Srinagar Thang-Ta Association in collaboration with J&K Thang-Ta Association. More than 300 players participated in the championship.

J&K Sports Council in association with J&K Body Building Association is organizing the first of its kind “Chenab Valley Body Building Competition ” on 24th and 25th September 2022 in district Kishtwar followed by “Mr. Kashmir ” next month.

Moreover, a bodybuilding competition is slated to be held in J&K in the last week of October making way for winners to participate in Mr. India 2021-22 competition later this year in Ludhiana, Punjab.
