Block Diwas held at Pahalgam, Dachnipora, Bijbehara, Ang

Anantnag :  The weekly Block Diwas was Wednesday held at three community development blocks of the district viz. Pahalgam, Dachnipora and Bijbehara here on Wednesday.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, DrBasharatQayoom presided over the event at Pahalgam and listened to the people for redressal of their issues and grievances.

Chairman DDC MY Gorsi, various BDCs, CMO, ACD, Executive Engineers and representatives of various line departments besides locals in large numbers attended the public outreach programme.

Visiting public delegations, PRI members put forth several demands including ensuring stocking of necessary rations near far flung areas prior to the start of winter season, construction of interior roads, review of construction guidelines in Pahalgam, implementation of works programme as per Gram Sabha development plans, staff availability in health centres, rationalization of teaching staff in government schools, etc.

The DC after giving patient hearing to the public assured of resolving all genuine grievances and issues.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the block diwas is a novel platform for people to put forth their grievances and receive prompt responses. He emphasized that such mechanisms impart transparency in governance and promote responsive functioning of public entities.

He said that directions have been passed to all line departments to ensure that their representatives regularly participate in Block Diwas and ensure redressal of genuine grievances. He said that the Government is fully committed to last mile delivery of public services.

The DDC stressed on coordination among PRIs and officials to ensure welfare of the public, besides, directed the officers to be present in Gram Sabhas so that genuine demands can be addressed immediately. He said that the short term demands will be addressed soon and for the bigger ones the plan has to be framed.

The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Bashir Ahmed Wani listened to the public at Dachnipora and said that the District Administration has taken up various developmental works for welfare of the people and is committed to complete them within given timelines.

He stressed that regular Gram Sabhas must be held to discuss public demands and works must be taken up as per priorities defined by the Gram Sabha.

He directed officials from various line departments to ensure time bound redressal of grievances and to maintain record of grievances received and disposed-off.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Gulzar Ahmad convened the event at Mini Secretariat Bijbehara and listened to the grievances of people. He assured the public of time bound redressal of grievances.

The ACD said that several works are being implemented by Rural Development for welfare of the panchayats. He said it is the responsibility of the public to conduct social audits of these works and ensure that public money is being spent responsibly and for community benefit.
