Ganderbal : Govt. Boys High School Gutlibagh was on Saturday renamed after Shaheed ASI, Sakhi Akbar during a tribute paying function held at Govt. Boys High School Gutlibagh, here.

The tribute paying function was organized by the District Administration Ganderbal in collaboration with Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, District Social Welfare Officer Ganderbal and She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs Wayil.

The School has been renamed after the Martyr Shaheed ASI, Sakhi Akbar in pursuance to the directions of the Government which has taken a unique initiative of paying tributes to the Martyrs by naming the Government Schools, Colleges and Roads etc. in their names.

The programme was presided over by the District development Council (DDC) Chairperson Ganderbal, NuzhatIshfaq; Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir and SSP Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar.

Besides, the family members of the Martyr, DDC Member Ganderbal A, SarpanchWayilWudar, Chief Education Officer, Social Welfare Officer, Dy Chief Education Officer, teachers, students, prominent citizens of the area besides relatives of Shaheed ASI, Sakhi Akbar were also present in the event.

On the occasion, all the dignitaries paid floral tributes to Shaheed ASI, Sakhi Akbar who sacrificed his life in service of the nation.

NuzhatIshfaq while paying rich tributes to the martyr and complemented the school administration for conducting such tribute paying function and urged the CEO to conduct similar functions in other schools also which are renamed after the martyrs.

Speaking on the occasion, DC expressed his gratitude to the family members of martyr, Sakhi Akbar for their strength and courage and reiterated that martyrs are the pride and inspiration for the future generations and they will remain immortal for their act of immense sacrifice, valor and service to the nation.

While expressing his gratitude, SSP Ganderbal complemented the J&K Police for their commendable job in maintaining peace, tranquility and integrity, adding that no other agency/society has done such work during turmoil in J&K. He further said that conducting such programs inspire the students to serve the society and appealed to them to come forward and become part of J&K Police and assured full support in this regard.

Sarpanch, CEO and other speakers also threw light on the life of Sakhi Akbar and described him as a true gentleman who was always ready to sacrifice his life for the dignity and integrity of the nation.

Earlier, the students of the school presented a welcome song and 2-minute silence was also observed in memory of martyr Sakhi Akbar.

Meanwhile, pledge against drug abuse was taken by all the participants on the occasion.
