Anantnag : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoomon Monday attended the Rank Pin/ pinning ceremony of Forest Division Anantnag as Chief Guest.
District Forest Officer (DFO) Anantnag, speaking on the occasion, briefly introduced the functioning of the department and its efforts to save the forests and to cover more area under green belt.
He said that under ‘Green JK Drive’ and ‘Har Ghar Hariyali Program’, vast afforestation has been taken up not only in forest areas but near habitation also.
The DC while congratulating the elevated forest officials on the occasion said that forest officials have to continue the efforts for safeguarding the forests with involvement of the general public and creating awareness.
He said that the services offered by the Forest Department have been instrumental in increasing the green cover in the district. He said that the role of forest officials in preventing exploitation of natural resources is critical in the global fight for preventing climate change.
Eight officials of the rank of forest guards were promoted to Deputy Foresters. The said ceremony was attended by DFO Anantnag, officials of Forest department, members of the media fraternity among others.
