Jmu admin steps up drug abuse eradication measures

Jammu : Deputy Commissioner AvnyLavasa on Saturday chaired the meeting of District Level NCORD committee to review the action plan regarding narcotics control in the district.

SP City North KulbirHanda, CEO Suraj Singh Rathore, Superintendent NCB Jammu Mohd. Nawab Khan, ACD Jammu Preeti Sharma, Deputy Director Information (Hqr) Dr. RehanaAkhtarBijli, DYSSO Jammu Sukhdev Sharma, DSWO Mamta Rajput besides other members of the committee and concerned officials were present in the meeting.

At the outset, the crucial issues regarding identification of illicit poppy, enhancing check on pharmaceutical premises, spreading of mass awareness to reduce the demand of narcotics, identification of victims, counseling of victims and their parents, assistance in rehabilitation etc were discussed in the meeting.

The DC asked the SP to maintain close watch on the pharmaceutical premises to check the sale of psychotropic  drugs, besides strengthening  vigil on   supply of illicit poppy and smuggling of narcotics.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the CEO to organise special debate competitions, lectures and other curriculum activities to sensitize the students about the hazards of drug abuse. She also advised for counseling of victims as well as their parents to make them aware about the symptoms of drug addiction.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Deputy Director Information to conduct the mass awareness under NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan to generate awareness among the vulnerable groups.

She also directed to involve BDC, PRI members for generating awareness and to curb the demand of narcotics.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the DYSSO to organise sports activities to keep the students and other youths away from the use of drugs. She also asked the concerned officials to prepare a calendar of activities to deal with drug issues under NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The DC asked the committee members to work in close coordination and leave no stone unturned to curb the menace of narcotics.
