Rehabilitation, Social, Psychological counselling to addicts essential to eradicate drug menace: Dr Owais

Bandipora :    In order to raise awareness and eradicate drug menace, programmes against drug addiction were held across the district Bandipora here on Thursday.

The programmes witnessed participation of youth, students and senior citizens who took pledge to fight against drug menace.

DeputyCommissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed attended the programme against drug menace at Higher Secondary School, Mantrigam.

The programme at Mantrigam was attended by District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora who is also Nodal Officer Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Dy CEO Bandipora M Rafiq Parray, Principal of the InstitJ&Ke, District Cultural Coordinator Bandipora Reyaz ul Hassan, staff members of the InstitJ&Ke, PRIs and large gathering of students.

Various cultural programmes including short skits and speeches were delivered to raise awareness regarding drug menace.

A pledge taking ceremony was also held to contributionin fight against drug menace in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC  said that Rehabilitation, moral and psychological counselling to addicts in addition to family support  is essential to eradicate drug menace. He said drug addiction has a devastating impact on the addict, his family and society.

Dr Owais said to break the drug mafia, support of each and every individual is needed. He urged the students to stay away from drugs and focus on fJ&Kure plans and career opportunities in order to excel in academics and sports.

He said a drug de-addiction  centre will be made functional soon in the district to save the lives ruined by the drug menace.

Dr. Owais also flagged-off a rally of students to generate awareness aboutthe ill effects of this evil and to achieve the goal of drug free India.

Similar programmes were organised across the district at sub divisional and tehsil level along with schools and colleges.
