DC B’la presides over ‘Children with Special Needs’ progat GHSS

Says ‘Every initiative being taken to uplift Specially abled Persons’

Baramulla : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgaron Monday said that the specially abled children have the abilities to excel in every field and laid emphasis on the need to impart quality education to the students with special focus on developing their vocational skills so that they can lead independent lives and contribute to the society.
The DC made these remarks while presiding over a programme on ‘Children with Special Needs’ organized by Education Department Baramulla at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Baramulla.
President Municipal Council BaramullaTouseefRaina, Chief Education Officer Baramulla G.M Lone, District Social Welfare Officer, Nissar Ahmad Wani besides various reputed sports personalities and children were present on the occasion.
The children taking part in this event showed various types of art in different categories including Singing, Painting etc. They also presented a colorful series of cultural items on the occasion.
While addressing, the DC said that the specially abled children have the capacity and potential to nourish their abilities in every aspect of their life. She asserted that the District Administration will take every step for their upliftment.
She also said that providing better education and healthcare facilities to such individuals should be the priority for all and assured that all required measures shall be taken to ensure a better education for these individuals.
The DC also interacted with Basketball player, Ishrat Jan, who apprised the DC with regard to some basic issues including non availability of any Basketball court in the entire district.
Acting upon the problem raised by her, the DC directed the concerned authorities to identify a separate land where a special basketball court will be constructed to provide facilities to the said children.
The DC also directed the concerned officers to arrange a proper ramp facility for the children using wheelchairs and further directed them to look into the special needs of the people with special abilities so that measures are taken to ease the problems faced by them.
Meanwhile, DC exhorted all the concerned officers to organize such programmes on a regular basis so that people are made aware with regard to the rights and responsibilities towards the specially abled people.
President Municipal Council Baramulla also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the importance of making people aware about the rights of specially-abled persons.
Later, a felicitation programme was held wherein certificates and awards were handed over to the best individuals who have shown outstanding performance in the cultural items.
