KU hosts Sufi Festival in remembrance of Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah (RA) at it’s main campus Srinagar

Srinagar : Kashmir University’s Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW) on Thursday organised a mega Sufi Festival under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the celebration of country’s 75th year of Independence.

According to a statement issued from the Public Relations Centre of the University the Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan graced the occassion as chief guest, while Maj Gen S.P.S. Vishwasrao, GOC 31 Sub Area, was the guest of honour and Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir was the special guest at the glittering opening ceremony.

The day-long festival which saw a massive participation of students, faculty and staff was organised in remembrance of Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah (RA).

Spectacular performances which enthralled the audience at the varsity’s sprawling Convocation Complex included performances by Mizraab Group, KU’s students from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Asif Faiz, Nargis Khatoon and Waqar Khan.

In her presidential address, Prof Nilofer said she is glad to see huge participation of students and staff in the festival which offers an opportunity to young artists to showcase their talent.

She complimented the DSW for organising the festival and hoped that such events will continue to be organised in future as well.

In his special remarks, Dr Nisar said the University of Kashmir is open to provide a platform to young artists to exhibit and promote their creativity and artistic endeavors.

In her welcome address, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Aneesa Shafi gave details of the event and also highlighted the universal message of Sufism related to peace, brotherhood and harmony as propagated by Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah (RA). She also gave a brief of activities of DSW involving the student community.

Cultural Officer KU Shahid Ali Khan conducted proceedings of the programme, which was attended by senior officers of KU including Deans, HoDs, Controller of Examinations, Media Advisor, besides teaching and non-teaching staff members. The Vice-Chancellor and other dignitaries later felicitated the artists who performed at the event with mementoes.
