Block Diwas held at Kokernag, Qazigund

Anantnag : The weekly Block Diwas was Wednesday held in twin blocks of Qazigund and Kokernag in Anantnag, here on Wednesday.

At Qazigund, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad Wani presided over the event while at Kokernag, the event was presided over by Riyaz Ahmad Shah, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Anantnag.

People in large numbers attended the Block Diwas at Qazigund and demanded up-gradation of local infrastructure in the Health, Education sector besides extension of road connectivity, water and power facilities in the area. They also raised issues regarding management of traffic in Qazigund town.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC stressed that the Block Diwas mechanism has been instrumental in bridging the gap between people and directed the officers to ensure that all grievances raised are resolved fulfilling the aim of organizing these programs.

He said that the Government is fully committed to last mile delivery of public services. He said that several services particularly related to revenue are being provided online and people should take benefit of this facility.

He said online delivery of services has not only reduced the time of delivery but has also created an accountability mechanism and responsibility of delay will be fixed on the erring officers.

The ADDC stressed on coordination among PRIs and officials to ensure welfare of the public.

In Kokernag, demands regarding macadamisation of roads, execution of works under MGNREGA, upgradation of electric poles, among others were raised by the participants.

The ACD said that several works are being implemented by Rural Development for welfare of the panchayats. He said it is the responsibility of the public to conduct social audits of these works and ensure that public money is being spent responsibly and for community benefit.

Addressing the grievances of people, he directed the concerned line departments to ensure that the issues are resolved in a time bound manner.

Among others, Block Diwas was attended by PRI members from both blocks.

The block was attended by SDM Dooru, Tehsildars, and representatives from line departments besides members of the media fraternity.
