NIFT Sgr kick starts 2-day orientation prog for freshers

Two more courses introduced from current session

Srinagar : The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar on Wednesday kick-started a two day orientation programme for the fresh batch of students.
As many as 130 new students have enrolled for bachelors and masters’ course of fashion management at NIFT Srinagar as the institute has introduced two more courses from the current year.
In addition to the already existing bachelors courses—Fashion designing and fashion communication, the institute has introduced bachelors in life style accessories and masters in fashion management from the current session.
“This year we have received a good response from the students as the admission has increased almost three times as compared to previous years,” Director NIFT Srinagar, Dr. Javid Ahmad Wani said.
Notably, the orientation programme has been held to acclimatise the new batch of students with the campus, courses and other facilities which are provided at the institute.
“As a set practice, we conduct an orientation programme to get the students familiar with the curriculum, campus, staff and the students,” he said.
During the interaction with the students, the joint director NIFT Srinagar Sandeep Sachan welcomed the guests and expressed his happiness noting that the students from diverse cultures were enrolled at the institute.
He hailed the efforts of the director NIFT for putting in his efforts to take the institute to new heights.
In his address, the Director NIFT said the students from all over the country opting for NIFT Srinagar was an achievement for the institute and its management.
“I thank you and your parents for reposing faith in us. During your course, you should not keep your stay confined to the NIFT premises but you should explore rich arts and crafts of Kashmir” he asked the students.
The Director NIFT Srinagar advised the students to keep their sense of creativity up “which will help you to be a good designer.”
The director later held a separate interaction with the parents who had accompanied their kids to the institute and said the management values the decision of parents for choosing NIFT Srinagar to pursue the course.
“I assure you that we will do our best to make you feel that your decision to opt for NIFT Srinagar was right,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner Budgam Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza accompanied by Assistant Development Commissoner Budgam Nuzhat Qureshi visited the NIFT campus and interacted with the fresh batch of the students.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner expressed his happiness noting that students from almost every state and UT have opted for NIFT located in Budgam.
“It is an honour for us that students from diverse cultures are here under one roof at NIFT,” he remarked.
He advised the fresh batch of the students to take fashion beyond cat walk and pursue their course with utmost dedication and hard work.

Teenager drowns in river Jhelum in Nawakadal, rescue ops on
Srinagar : A 14-year-old boy drowned in river Jhelum in Nawakadal area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening, officials said here.
Official sources said that Momin Ahmad (14) of Dal Hassanyar drowned in river Jhelum while taking a bath.
They said that soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched by River Police Srinagar to retrieve the body.
Meanwhile, police is said to have taken cognizance of the incident
